 2017 Preview

Holly Pond completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region six, the Broncos earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Holly Pond's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Piedmont by a score of 55-26.

The Broncos improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2007. The Broncos won as many games as in any season since 2007. The 378 points scored by the Broncos last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2011 season that the Broncos qualified for the playoffs. The Broncos have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. The Broncos hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Bates saw improvement as they won six games following a 1-9 record in 2015.

Since 2010, the Holly Pond football program has struggled with a record of 14-58.

Over the past 25 seasons, Holly Pond has managed to compile a record of 97-161. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 3A and 310th in the AHSAA.

The Broncos are led by head coach Mike Bates who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 7-34 over the past four seasons at Holly Pond. Under his direction the Broncos have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bates.

Coach Bates' overall record as a head football coach in twenty-eight season stands at 158-143 (52.5%). His 158 wins rank 5th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Bates' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times and won five region championships. Coach Bates won a state championship at in 2007.

The Holly Pond Broncos will play in Class 3A region six during the 2017 season.

The Broncos will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season.

The Broncos open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Coosa Christian on Friday, August 25 at Holly Pond Stadium. Last year the Coosa Christian Conquerors finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 1A region six.
